WWII USMC Good Conduct Medal New Regulations 1946

From the Jan 46 USMC Headquarter Bulletin. I know roughly the qualification of being awarded a USMC GCM changed in 1946. Here are those changes. Previously it was four years upon reenlistment. Seems like many WWII Marine missed both windows resulting in so few GCM being awarded. This is the first time I've seen these details published.

WWII 1944 Proposed Corpsman Utilities Field Uniform

One of the most interesting research finds is this article found in a 1944 issue of the NavMed newsletter. The article was referenced in the 5th Medical Battalion Iwo Jima After Action report concerning the dislike for the Unit-3 bags and suggesting that this proposed Field Uniform for Hospital Corpsman. The Unit-3 bags were not well liked by Navy Corpsman with many complaints of their difficulty of finding items in the bag during emergencies. This uniform which never got past evaluations stage was proposed but never used. Instead of carrying bags, the Corpsman could fill his uniform with his various supplies using the various custom pockets throughout, resulting in a uniform that looks similar to the Parachutist Smock used by the Marines. What is interesting to note is the updated Corpsman Unit-3 Content list which is different from the Navy Medical Catalog list, and serves as an updated 1944 list for those who are putting together Corpsman impressions. The uniform was never put into service but this article serves as a "What If" if the war with Japan lasted into 1946.

Pre-WWII Japanese Kyushu Map

I always like to keep eye out for WWII era maps of Japan, this is a nice example of a pre war 1934 map of Kyushu, the area where the 5th MarDiv occupied in the late 1945-early 1946. This map includes both Sasebo and Nagasaki.

WWWII USMC Boots Boondockers 1943

I first started collecting Militaria in the early 90's and one of the first items I ever picked up for my USMC collection at that time was this pair of NOS WWII USMC Rough Out boots aka Boondockers. I bought the pair of boots from a dealer at Kaiser Bills in Pomona CA. At the time it was one of the most expensive items I ever bought for my Militaria collection, although today it would be a steal at the price I paid for them. Currently I'm gathering and collecting all the items that would have been in 782 Pack, these boots being in the lower knapsack.
